From June 2014 to June 2016, Curious Projects curated a programme of exhibitions in a tiny (but quirky) space in The Labyrinth in central Eastbourne. We exhibited ambitious sculptural and installation work, aiming to support artistic practices which involve 'making' within a contemporary critical framework. Previously a shop window, the space was situated in an indoor Edwardian shopping arcade, incongruously nestled between a nail salon, a florist and a palm reader. Over two years, we curated 11 shows – nine solo shows and two group shows – featuring the work of 59 artists. We were particularly interested in work that could provide fuel for discussions on the interplay (or perhaps disjunction) between making and thinking.
